Ease of Use

Ease of use is one of the primary objectives of EMC Documentum 6. We've paid particular attention to improving ease of use so that administrators can quickly set up the EMC Documentum platform, integrate it with other enterprise systems, and easily customize EMC Documentum functionality. Additionally, EMC Documentum enables end users to intuitively understand EMC Documentum functionality and rapidly start using our products.

Web-based user interfaces

For end users, EMC Documentum provides consistent and easy-to-use web-based user interfaces such as EMC Documentum Webtop, EMC Documentum Digital Asset Manager, EMC Documentum Web Publisher, and EMC Documentum Administrator. These user interfaces are all based on a common set of components provided by the EMC Documentum Web Development Kit.

The use of a common component pool ensures a high degree of commonality between the different user interfaces, significantly reducing an organization's training requirements. To ensure an efficient design of its user interfaces, EMC Documentum applies the latest findings in human ergonomics and conducts extensive usability tests at customer sites and in EMC Documentum's own usability lab.

Easy integration

Administrators benefit from the simple installation of EMC Documentum 6 and the ease with which EMC Documentum can be integrated with other enterprise systems. EMC Documentum leverages application server architecture based on industry standards such as J2EE and Microsoft's COM/.NET. EMC Documentum also supports LDAP to integrate with enterprise directories as well as other industry standards such as WebDAV, ODBC, JDBC, FTP, and Web Services, which facilitate easy integration with other enterprise systems.

Components-based architecture

The components-based architecture of EMC Documentum clients allows enterprises to easily customize any user interface. Since each client is essentially a different grouping of the WDK components, administrators can efficiently add or remove functionality from each client or even build completely new clients for different user roles.
